Vantaan Energia Oy – Power-to-Gas project

Lieke acts as an advisor to Vantaan Energia Oy in all legal matters related to the company’s Power-to-Gas (P2G) project. The project requires in-depth knowledge of the energy industry and experience in managing contract risks in new technology projects.

We act as an advisor to Vantaan Energia Oy on a project in which the company is developing and designing a new Power-to-Gas plant for the production of synthetic methane and thermal energy. In the project, production is divided into three parts: carbon capture from flue gases from Vantaan Energia Oy’s waste incineration plant; electrolysis, where water is divided into hydrogen by electricity; and methane production, where hydrogen and carbon dioxide are combined to produce methane and heat as a by-product. The combined production of methane and thermal energy from the plant planned for Vantaa is estimated to be about 24 MW.

The project is groundbreaking, as Power-to-X technology is seen as one of the solutions for implementing carbon-neutral energy systems of the future. The plant would be unique in Finland and among the first plants operating on an industrial scale in the world. The estimated commissioning of the plant will take place in 2024–2025.
