Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy – Offshore wind farm Tahkoluoto

Lieke acted as the legal advisor for the world’s first offshore wind farm in an arctic environment. The Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm (investment value 120 MEUR) was commissioned in 2017 and was the first offshore windfarm ever built in Finland.

Our experts’ roles included all contract law related aspects for the project. The work included the negotiation and support for contracting sea cabling, marine operations, turbine supply as well as long-term service maintenance. Our firm also supported Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy in the legal project management and claims management in relation to the project. The contract parties included major international suppliers such as Siemens, Technip Offshore Finland, Jan De Nul N.V. (Belgium) and Prysmian Finland Oy.

The Tahkoluoto project required in-depth knowledge of contractual structures and mechanisms relevant for offshore construction projects. “Compared to onshore wind power, the element of carrying out construction works at sea brings an additional level of complexity to the contractual liabilities“, says Aimo Halonen, the Partner responsible for the Tahkoluoto project at Lieke.
