Marja Norrena, Maija Ahtiainen, Valmari Keskimäki, and Krista Hautakoski from Lieke’s Dispute resolution team contributed to the annual Chambers & Partners Global Practice Guide: Litigation 2026 by authoring the Finland chapter.

The publication provides a comprehensive overview of court proceedings and dispute resolution in Finland. The Law and Practice section covers all stages of court proceedings, from initiating a lawsuit to appeals and enforcement of judgments. The article addresses, among other things, commencing proceedings, statutes of limitations, responding to claims, court jurisdiction, discovery, evidence and presentation of evidence, injunctive relief, trials and hearings, judgment and appeals, costs, and enforcement. In addition, it briefly covers alternative dispute resolution methods such as mediation and arbitration.

The publication also includes a separate Trends and Developments section addressing current trends and developments in the dispute resolution landscape. This section examines, among other things, new challenges in the energy sector, the role of artificial intelligence and data in business and legal work, ESG-related litigation, current measures to improve the efficiency of civil proceedings, and the growing popularity of alternative dispute resolution in Finland.

“Many global business trends are evident in Finland, including the ongoing energy transition, the rise of AI and growing awareness of ESG issues. These developments are influencing the Finnish business landscape and are likely to eventually lead to an increasing number of disputes in these areas, which often involve novel and complex issues.”
